I went into this game expecting it to be nothing rr99.com more than a quick tech demo, I was very wrong. What I was meet with was a platformer where you played as a charming little robot in a world that has a better art style then most modern games. It’s good when you say other critically acclaimed games aren’t doing it well. That’s not to say all games aren’t doing this, as Returnal and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 used the controller capabilities to the max. That is basically it, a game that even small kids (6y) can play and enjoy.

 

There are a few areas where specific weapons like bows and arrows can be used to shoot explosive barrels, a clever way to get the player used to the new norm of adaptive triggers. Astro’s Playroom is a technical demo and free platforming game bundled with every PlayStation 5, and the gaming community could not get enough of its cutesy art style and homage to the brand’s history. Japan Studio wanted to give early users a taste of the hardware’s capabilities and showcase the improvements of the DualSense controller to give them a definitive next-gen experience. In the PS1 at the start of the level, there’s a memory card with “Ken’s” written on it. This is a reference to Ken Kutaragi, the father of the PlayStation.

 

So many little details throughout Astro’s Playroom make the DualSense exciting. On the first level, you’re going along a beach and can feel the steps you make in the sand. Each bit of grain is felt through your hand, which makes it intense in the best way. Take when you’re exiting the beach and you’re walking against the fans that are blowing sand across you. The microphone makes the wind more intense while the vibrations of the sand are felt as the controller feels like a sandstorm. Whether it’s the main menu with its signature Astro theme to celebrate the character, or CPU Plaza’s grandiose techno track and even Cooling Springs having a nice and cozy tune in its ice level.

It’s enough content to keep you busy for around an hour or so longer, but considering Astro’s Playroom came free for anyone who owns a PS5, it’s more than enough reason to celebrate. PlayStation and Team Asobi have dropped a surprise update for Astro’s Playroom in celebration of the reveal of its full-fledged Astro title, Astro Bot. Maybe the most impressive piece of the PlayStation 5 hardware is its new controller, but it’ll only be as good as the games that support it. Transcending its role as an introduction to the PS5’s features, Astro’s Playroom is a quick and delightful celebration of PlayStation’s history.

 

With 31 Bronze‚ 14 Silver‚ 5 Gold‚ and 1 Platinum trophy‚ the system provides a balanced challenge for players of all skill levels. The trophies range from story completion to collectible-based achievements and unique in-game challenges. Notably‚ none of the trophies are missable‚ allowing players to enjoy the game without pressure. The system is designed to be accessible‚ with an estimated completion time of 5-7 hours for the Platinum trophy.

 

Trophies are another kind of collectible that are available in every PlayStation 5 game (as well as the PS4, PS3 and PSVita). The frog suit of Cooling Springs is an absolute treasure in its DualSense use, though the levels are not necessarily my favorites.
